inspiration monday

i went out on a "retail safari" the other day and found this new grid paper pad.   i know it seems a bit kooky to get excited about a pad of paper with lots of non-repro-blue boxes on it, but i'll openly admit i absolutely love me a grid!  and once i added a new pencil to the mix, inspiration wasn't far behind…..

because before i knew it,  i was doodling fun letters and little swirlies…..

along with some whimsical little scallop banners…..

and other things straight from the heart.

but what surprised me was this little girlie.  i don't normally draw people, or pencil-shaded trees, and i don't know anyone named phoebe…..but here she is with her hair blowing in the breeze and a basket on her arm!

which just goes to show…..when you go on retail safari,  you never know where inspiration is going to lead you with all your new supplies!

p.s.  and speaking of retail safari,
i also picked up the mar/april issue of Somerset Studio magazine…...

thank you, christen,  for the absolutely beautiful feature!!  xox
(i. am. SO. excited!!!)

inspiration monday

i am SO super excited!   the doors open today to my new online class,
doodle page!  woo hoo!

this class is all about starting with a blank page in your favorite journal…..

and adding a spark of inspiration through a fun quote, some watercolor,
and other doodly touches until we have a finished journal page!

along the way, we'll talk about all the things that go into creating a journal page:

*inspiration and your own design style
*all of the main elements that go into page composition
*simple print lettering
*lettering variations
*shading
*watercolor, outlining, and borders

(we'll even talk a bit about chocolate!)

there's over three hours of video instruction, and lots of PDFs to print out!

this class is hosted over at Creative Workshops…..
as a student, you'll have 24/7 access to the classroom, so you can come and go as you like, you can watch the videos as often as you want, and you can learn while you're wearing your pajamas!

so let's journal your favorite quote from start to finish…..
see you in the classroom!!  xox

inspiration monday

when it comes to working in my favorite art journal….

the pages i enjoy most are created when i allow
inspiration to take complete control…..

and i stick to matters close to my heart.

and speaking of matters-of-the-heart,
please pass the chocolate, and let's talk some happy!

inspiration monday

there's something about playing with rubber stamps that always inspires me.
but this time instead of using them to create a card, i thought i'd use them in my small moleskine journal , and i started the fun by stamping this large stamp.

then i decided to stamp some of the smaller hearts and paint in those blank spaces.

once they were painted, they still looked a little bare, so i jazzed them up a bit with some doodles.

but when you're having fun with hearts, it's hard to stop at painting just one…..

so now i have a journal page filled with some doodly-heart-goodness,
all inspired by some rubber stamps…..and my little dutch sweetie!
