hearts in hands

my sweet ten-year-old niece is staying with me for a few days. she loves to laugh, swim, read....and play in my studio! and truth be known, i've learned a lot more from her the past couple of days than she's learned from me. watching her has reminded me of the importance of "play".....that there really are no mistakes.....that creating art means never having to say i'm sorry. and especially that it's okay to just have some plain ol' fun....and that's exactly what we've been doing (wait until you see what she made with polymer clay.....more on that tomorrow!)!

  1. How fun! I'm sure she's learning a lot from you, too! There is nothing like time with a favored aunt :) Let the good times roll!

  2. I'm so glad you have someone to play with. I wonder if she will be doing something creative as she grows up. It would be nice.

  3. fun fun. i remember the first time i really let my girls loose with some paint and paper. they decided to literally paint their hands with paint and then stamp their hands onto the paper. we had paint everywhere! but great fun.

  5. Aren't 10 year olds fun, fun, fun? I love that pic and it will become a cherished heirloom one day. Better print it out on quality paper.

  6. I'm sure the two of you are having a fabulous time, and what wonderful memories you are creating together! If you were closer, I'd send my 10 year old over too so you could all have another playmate! (actually, I'd come too!!)

  12. It looks like you've been having some fun!!! Cute pix! I love it when my grandbabies are here visiting. One of the first things they ask me is "are we going to paint today?" Sometimes we do and sometimes not, but we always do something crafty. Have a nice day!

  13. As adults, I think we do forget to "play", to express ourselves in a not-so-serious mode and to laugh. I'm glad she's there for you as much as you are for her :).

The gifts we receive from our children....:)
