lovin' from the oven

my sweet tooth is reminding me that it's 3:45 in the afternoon......and that means chocolate!! today's pick: brownies.....in the form of an eight-by-eight inch pan of pure chocolatey happiness!
but, here's the dilemma: do i cut a piece large enough to satisfy my cocoa craving, and then be done with it?
or, do i cut a more lady-like square, and then do the "brownie whittle"......you know, when you cut a small piece, and then go back a few minutes later and cut just a sliver (to even up the edges, of course), thereby saving on mega-calories by eating such a tiny piece......and then repeat the whittle as needed (to even up the edges, of course).....or until the entire first row is gone, and then proceed on to the next row.....

  1. the bigger square you cut the more calories you burn. think about it. you have to do that much more sawing with the knife to get a bigger piece therefore working your arm muscles harder and possibly even breaking a sweat. this is all good. i say go for maximum calorie burn and cut a big piece.

  2. Hi Sweetie! oooooooh oooh! I agree with what Patty said. Definitely go for the big daddy hunk of a piece, to start with... then do the "whittle"! Hey, when we're talking yummy, warm from the oven, delicious brownies, who cares about calories, so don't forget that big blob of vanilla ice cream on top either!!! Oh happy day!!! Hugs, Paulette =D

  4. I say go for the big cut. And if you happen to cut it crooked then do the whittle. BTW, where's the recipe?

  5. I would think if you would "do the whittle"..(sounds like a new dance), you would burn more calories...getting up and walking over to the pan, cutting a little piece, then walking back to your chair and sitting down. Munch, munch.....then repeat. If you went for 5 or 6 whittles, think of all the walking you would get done. They say walking is a good calorie burner....LOL!!!! Looks good! You are making me hungry!!

  6. You are too funny! Now I am craving chocolate though...

Thanks for your sweet comment about my dad. He is a sweetheart and I am so proud of him.

Can you believe my Lantana? It is huge! All my other Lantana around my house isn't near that big. Must like the evening sun or something???

  7. I go for the big piece usually! Might as well take what you really want! And then some ice cream with it - yum!! Can I come over for a piece?!? Hugs, Silke

  8. Your description of whittling away pieces of brownie is so funny, probably because I do it this way too. Sneaking off little bits all day long extends the enjoyment.

  9. I am cracking up! My teeny-tiny mother-in-law once ate 1/4 of a cake just by "whittling!". She couldn't believe it...hysterical. I had my chocolate attack yesterday...orange-chocolate sponge candy. Heaven...

  12. Oh my goodness -- I can totally relate to your quandary -- cut a lady-like piece and follow with the "brownie whittle" vs. just going for a big piece. What a kick!! I vote for the big piece!! In any case -- enjoy it!!

P.S. Can't wait to receive my new journal in the mail!! Happy Days!!

  14. You are aware of the fact that since you baked it half of the calories of the big piece don't count? :D

  20. Hmmmm....

Depends upon how you are feeling lol! If the craving is intense and severe, I usually just do it with a nice hunk and feel that imediate gratification :) :), especially if I've been a good girl for a long while.

If the craving is mild and I just need a little fix, then I get a small to meduim piece followed by either a glass of water or milk to fill me up.

Honestly, for me, there is no such thing as a "small" piece of brownie lol, unless it's been served at a social gathering and I absolutely MUST share :).

    It's a girl's bestfriend!

Like your thinking Patty S. lol!
