last week i created this little book by lettering a quote onto paste paper......some of the pages looked like they needed something, but i didn't know what, so instead of forcing the issue (which is what i usually do so i can call it finished), i put it away for a few days. and when i pulled it out again, it was like seeing it for the first time! i realized that it needed a little more color on a couple of the pages, and then i added a little shadowing to some of the lettering......and proved to myself that when a touch of patience is thrown into the mix, inspiration can definitely strike twice on the same project!
put on your flip-flops and grab your sand buckets.....we're headed to the ocean!

Hi ! I just had a good look at the inside! Wow! It's lovely!
ReplyDeleteit is amazing how different something looks when we step away from it for awhile, I do love the finished piece!
ReplyDeletelistening to the ocean while looking at your piece was calming. enjoy your monday.
ReplyDeleteAw, my all time favourite colour. It's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteFABULOUS!
ReplyDeleteThis notebook is just..wonderful!
ReplyDeleteRight now I had to step away from my bachelor thesis because after almost finishing it I got stucked on the very last page. I'll wait till tomorrow for some new ideas :)
What a beautiful color. And you were so right about the shading on the lettering.
ReplyDeletePatience is best. I, myself, rarely have enough patience.
I love the idea of inspiration hitting twice on the same project. So very true! Love it! And I also adore all of those sweet treasures from your last post. Blogland is so fabulous and inspirational! Enjoy the ocean!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou know I thought it beautiful the first time I saw it, but it is amazing what the shading and the small additions made. It's great!!!
ReplyDeleteHave fun at the beach!!
it's so true, i do that too, set something aside, sometimes for months at a time, only to pick it up later and do a little something extra to it, and voila! i'm in love with it again!
ReplyDeletelove the colours you've used ...it's fresh and inspiring!

It's just magical, Lori!
ReplyDeleteThe swirling ocean hues, the lettering that coaxes the imagination to daydream, and of course the very fine craftsmanship! :-)
Why do I suddenly feel like making a sand castle?
Hugs,
Crystal
P.S. Thanks so much for your sweet mention of my purse charm! :-)
So pretty! funny how inspiration comes in waves! (and goes)! It is so much better when you don't have to force it.
ReplyDeleteHi Lori! So sad about The Olde Green Cupboard isn't it! The store is only 5 minutes from my house too. I was bummed!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, for the best Batik selection around you can check out this St. Augustine quilt shop. She's got a whole room full of batiks.

This blue is just to dive in, a beautiful colour and beautiful book :)
ReplyDeleteI love it, Lori, it was such a treat to see your lettering and the book is gorgeous. I was not familiar with the quote either and you know I am a quote lover! Thanks so much for sharing!!! Hugs to you today
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, Lori! I am sure that Rosie would agree!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYup, there's nothing like a little "space" to gain some perspective. (I've got some projects that have been hanging around for YEARS waiting for that inspiration!)
ReplyDeleteLove the paste paper. I used to do that - FUN. :)
Have a great time at the beach...
xoxo,
Kate
So beautiful, lori. I am in awe. I love how you added the oranges and violets with the ocean blues...gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteSo lovely and very wise of you to come back and find just the perfect finishing touches to add to your masterpiece. Happy creating...
ReplyDeleteThis really turned out great! I love the subtle shading on the letters. I often put projects aside to "percolate" but it's usually out of a sense of frustration rather than patience. I guess that explains all the unfinished projects lurking about.
ReplyDeleteit was totally worth the step away - it looks great! it's so hard to put projects aside when so close to the end, but the result is usually something totally different when you put the space of a few days and perspectives in between the almost-finished and final product! i love it!
ReplyDeleteSo you're a tweaker too huh? Going back to add, remove...change - this is all part of the fun. Glad to see you having lots of it.
ReplyDeletethat turned out BEAUTIFULLY!!!!
ReplyDeletetfs lori!!
xo, patty :-)
This is so awesome!
ReplyDeleteLori, the colors are so pretty! what a wonderful book! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great journal! Love the colors and I can see curling up in an adirondack chair along the beach with it in hand. And those treasures you shared in the previous post are just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLori, that book is so gorgeous! I love the colors you used, and your lettering is so amazing! You're so wise also about throwing some patience into the mix! That's very good advice! Thank you! xoxo Paulette ;)
