my little dutch sweetie treated me to a weekend getaway to a beautiful resort about an hour north of where we live. since we would be gone for just a couple of days, i definitely wanted to pack light. throwing the clothes, make-up and various hair paraphernalia into a suitcase was the easy part......but when it came to packing my "art bag", i ran into a bit of a challenge. how do i "pack light" when it comes to art?! how in the world do i narrow down all of my art-loves?! so i decided i would take only my journal, and a small case to hold some supplies. now.....what to fill the small plastic case with......
i thought about taking my watercolor pencils, but they're all my favorites......it would be hard to leave some of them behind, and that little travel case won't hold them all.
and then my pen collection came to mind.......it looks like there's too many of these to fit into that tiny travel case, too!
finally, i decided that my pencils would be the perfect thing to play with......and my travel case is the perfect size to hold several pencils, an eraser, a couple of smudging stumps, and a sharpener!
and at the end of the day, i decided it really doesn't matter what supplies you have......as long as you're inspired (and maybe sitting poolside!), you can always make it work!!
this journal page was finished using a 2B pencil, a 6B pencil, and an eraser.
you made it work beautifully. Enjoy your get a way. Hugs
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to have a quick get away. Your little case was just right for the supplies you chose and your journal says it all. Happy week to you...
ReplyDeleteOoooh those pencils and pens look so inviting. Have a great time!
ReplyDeleteYou solved the problem perfectly! :o)
ReplyDeleteHow sweet of your man to whisk you away for the weekend! Looks like you figured out a fabulous solution to your art supply packing problem :)
ReplyDeleteYou are blessed with your Dutch sweetie. I'm glad to see you remembered the pencil sharpener.

Have a fabulous time. Traveling with quilting is a bit simplier. I like to have a "hand" project ready to go and now....I'm knitting socks which are very portable too.
ReplyDeletePerfect!!! I'm the same way about art supplies, and you have some real treats :D
ReplyDeleteA getaway with a pool, sun, and art...oooh! Hope you had a wonderful and super-relaxing time, lori!
ReplyDeleteyou did make it work!
ReplyDeleteI know how hard it is to pack your art supplies. Every summer we go out of town for around 2-3 months. I've gotten the habit of taking a small box with supplies along. it's everything in there, and I mean everything:
Pencils, dip pens, ink, watercolors (both in pans and liquid form), papers, acrylics, gouache, ETC ETC.
But, for when I'm taking a quick trip, this is my sketching gear:
- A small wc set (14 half pans)
- Waterbrush
- 2 brushes
- A HB pencil
- My Lamy Vista <3

gorgeous 'make it work' and how you always make it work :) have fun!!!
ReplyDeleteOh you lucky girl, a surprise getaway. Yay!
ReplyDelete...and Lori, you ALWAYS make it work! ;) I love it!!!

true,,,I think if you are inspired and want to create something you can do it with whatever is available at the time...so packing wise I don´t think we always have to take half our studio with us cause it might also help to push us into new territory whereas at home you might not have thought or done what you do with limited supplies. I love your work sketch!!
ReplyDeleteYou made it work because you have inspiration! We forget sometimes that's all we need. But the delicious supplies we do have can be so sad if left behind!!
ReplyDeleteAh, true words of wisdom - make it work :)
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas! Enjoy your get-away!!
ReplyDeletewell, looks like you packed just what you needed!
ReplyDeletebe glad tho that your creative tool isn't a guitar! :)
I hope you have/had a fabulous and inspiring getaway with your Little Dutch Boy!!
