last week our lettering group hosted a workshop with irish master calligrapher denis brown. it was such a privilege to watch this maestro demonstrate his skill......and i was so inspired, that at one point i felt tears start to well up in my eyes!
{insert deep sigh and long pause.....}
but as easy as i always want it to be, it always comes back to the same message:
practice, practice, practice.
so practice i shall. but you know how it is......
once i get started, my mind starts to wander and i get inspired to do other things with that pen.
and before i know it, i've completely jumped off the path.
um, or should i say, i've completely jumped off the cliff......
:))

Qué imaginación más despierta! Me encantan los marcianos!
ReplyDeleteOhh, c'mon! How do you manage that? Turn a practice session in such fun? Those square people are great!!
ReplyDeleteHey Sweetie!!! I love your other fun stuff as much as your lettering...Lori, you ALWAYS bring such smiles...especially when I really need them! Your posts and artwork are always so special! Have a great day...and don't forget to sneak some chocolate in there somewhere! xoxo Paulette :)
ReplyDeleteoh how i love your little doodles!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, you did make me laugh! I love your creativity. So much you can do with the broad edge nib. :) :) :) You were truly blessed to have a class with Denis Brown. How fun would that have been! Keep up the good work Lori and your fun loving creativity too!
ReplyDeleteI studied with Denis for a week last summer, and I know how intense his classes are! So you can imagine my reaction as I read your post and saw the little people emerge from your pen. I'm still giggling! There is a time for serious practice and study, and then there is a time for... JOY! Go you!
ReplyDeleteHow much FuN! ♥

Wonderful!! I saw on Martha's blog what looked like a great time with Denis, and I hope it was. All the best to you Lori!
ReplyDeleteAh what fun!! I can relate to the hard, tedious practice needed for nice calligraphy. But, I had lots of fun looking at your fun play too!
ReplyDeleteI love this blog. I had a whole week with Denis at a conference one year, it totally changed my italic. Still does not look like his but it was a vast improvement!
ReplyDeleteI found a scrap of paper yesterday with a quote from Denis on it. Someone asked him, "Do you wear gloves when you work?" and he replied, with typical dry wit, "No, I wear a blindfold!"
ReplyDeleteAh, you must live in Florida. Wasn't Denis great. We had him for 4 days up in Calgary, (Bow Valley Calligraphy Guild) before he went down to you guys.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't posted any stuff I did during the class...
Love your lettering style by the way. Thanks for the inspirations.
