i love orange. i really do. i even did an entire journal devoted to the color orange.
but i can't quite decide if i'm so in love with all that orange on this particular pottery-barn-journal page. it seems to me the pendants are kind of lost.....and maybe even hiding.....in that sea of orange. not to mention those really cool contrepoids (i looked it up and that's french for "counterweight"......magnifique!). for some reason i get a little excited and heavy-handed when it comes to orange. but i guess that's one of the great things about journals......it's all experimental. some pages just turn out better than others.
and some pages could be a lot less......orange. :))
{supplies: koi watercolor.....mostly orange, micron pen, pencil}
great write! Could the fact that living in Florida has anything to do with ORANGE? LOL!!

Lori I am not a fan of orange, I actually run screaming from the color! lol But this piece made me fall in love with it! And with the blue makes each color pop!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! :)
Love your page. Trying to use more orange in my latest quilting project. I don't often use it.
ReplyDeleteI disagree. Love the orange. Love the page. I find the orange and blue have similar weights and the thing that stands out the most is the lettering "pendants" with the blue /orange as a foil in the background.
ReplyDeleteNow if you wanted the pendants to stand out, then I guess they needed more something to make them pop.
Absolutely beautiful!! I LOVE your blog - don't comment often, but I get so excited when I see a new post by you!!
ReplyDeleteMy page has Orange tones in it too, you'll have to pop by and peek at my self portrait sketch!
ReplyDeleteI love using orange paints, markers and especially pencil crayons...i find they are rich and heavily pigmented or something, but the really do lend themselves to 'heavy handling'!

Your orange is gorgeous and just right for this time of year - Autumnal - although we are having a heatwave this week!
ReplyDeleteI think it's absolutely perfect for fall!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I know what you mean about 'less' orange. The handbound journal I am working on (thanks to your link to the YouTube tutorial) has an autumn theme, so it is FILLED with oranges and golds. But I love this page you've done, along with all the others!
ReplyDeleteOh how the French do have a way with words...contrepoid. Your page is lovely and I do like the orange. I have never been fond of orange however I am warming to it this year. Maybe it is the blue that I love so much with this page. Happy coloring to you...
ReplyDeleteI have a been a big fan of orange for at least a year now (and it's my little girl's favorite color, along with purple). I think your orange fades away just enough around the pendants to let them have their own presence on the page.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's too orange..I love all of it..especially the French lesson :-)
ReplyDeletei always love a splash of orange to brighten things up, gorgeous page Lorie!
ReplyDeleteLove your page...it is perfect:)
ReplyDeleteI also love orange! You should see my newly painted stairs! Retro orange was the name of the color,
ReplyDeleteit`s always a pleasure to watch your blog!
Love orange but easy to subdue by glazing over with a little blue.
ReplyDeleteHi, love the lamps and the counter weights too. Love the lettering always!
ReplyDeleteI like this. Something about orange that makes everything feel alright. Cozy. :)
ReplyDeleteyour watercolor sketches are always remarkable!!
ReplyDeleteI keep finding myself saying "Wow" whenever I see one of your pages! ... and you just did it again!!!
ReplyDeleteOrange is lovely...when you do it!
ReplyDeleteI think you have left enough light around the lamps to not overtake them. Maybe when you come back to it after not looking at it for a while you'll like it better :-)
Another lovely page in your journal. I had a friend round for lunch earlier in the week and I was showing her your blog. She was awed as much as I am! and she watercolours too. One little question. How do you do your lettering?
ReplyDeleteMargaret xx
Lori, I love the contrast of the warm orange background against the cool blue. And, of course your lettering is uber fabulous, as always. What a beautiful journal this is, I'd like to live in the pages...xoxo~Jeanette
ReplyDeleteyour handlettering... quite simply... makes me happy. in ANY color!
ReplyDeleteI like it just the way it is...and oh how I would love to hang out in a Paris workshop!
ReplyDeletetee hee...my word verifcation is "ratbawls". I'm probably the only person who finds that really funny.
