stacked stones

if you happen to find yourself in the mountains (and maybe hiking up grandfather mountain in north carolina), you may come upon a little stream that's surrounded by really large rocks......and on those rocks you might see some sweet little towers of stacked stones that were left by previous hikers.

and then you can draw a little sketch of them in your favorite journal to help you remember all the fun you had that day (and how you somehow managed to get your choco-hips up that mountain, even though you were huffing and puffing the entire way.....).

  1. I climbed Grandfather Mountain years ago! I still have the pictures tucked away somewhere, back before digital. Your journal captures the stones perfectly.

  2. Lori! What a lovely depiction of those beautiful stones! I have a pixie version of stacked stones from various excursions sitting on my window sill in my studio! Now I can look at them with a new filter. God bless those choco-hips!;). Thanks for the chuckle. Happy Friday Eve to you! xoxo, Jeanette

I've just put my first journal page on my blog. It's not freehand though, just some of my rubber stamps

  13. I was researching those type of stones for a book once and they're called cairns or cairn stones. Isn't that a lovely name for them? I enjoy your blog so much. Thank you!

  14. I really like finding stacked rocks, and also collecting and stacking my own rocks. I guess I'm a touch and feel sort of person and I like feeling the texture of the rocks and looking at the colors etc. Fun idea to try to draw a stack.
