in my last post i "revealed" a sneak peek of the book project that i'm working on for chrissie grace....and as it turns out, i was a little too quick in doing that. i really liked the first project, but.....hmmm....something just wasn't right about it. something was nagging at me....kinda like a mosquito in your room when you're trying to sleep....you know it's there, but you just can't see it. but as i started cleaning up, the nagging got louder and i felt like my project was one of those big creepy portraits in a haunted house where the eyes follow you....begging you to look at it. then suddenly it hit me, and while i was dealing with the sick feeling in my stomach due to the mini-meltdown i felt coming on, i realized that it wasn't all of the technical issues that were bothering me (i.e. not enough contrast, etc.), it was the fact that it just wasn't a thousand percent "right"....i liked it, but i didn't love it (and i think that if something is going to appear in a book, i want to love it!).....quite simply, it wasn't ME. i wasn't trusting my instincts. somewhere along the path i had gotten bogged down in the details and lost sight of the big picture. i had finally found the "mosquito-in-the-room", but instead of sleeping, i stayed up until 2:00 in the morning creating a new project....and that was the best decision i'd made all week. i know....it's crazy.....i'm crazy. and i'm hoping that you're all shaking your heads up and down because you've been there done that. i'm sorry for the confusion. this is my "real reveal".

It is you! It has more yellow-oranges and blues. And the button is slightly off-center = PERFECTION :)

Sleep well tonight! I think its so important to listen to your intuition when making art, or anytime for that matter. I recently had a similar experience with my art.
Gotta trust those instincts. Glad it worked out for you, even though much sleep was lost. I love it. I really want to touch this piece.

I completely know what you are feeling. The other project was beautiful, but if it does not feel perfect, it's a redo. Your a perfectionist when it comes to your art and it shows! The good thing is now you have two beautiful pieces! I am a night owl too when it come to creating!

Oh I like this one too! The colors are different...and I like it. Sometimes when we know something just isn't quite right, it is time to sit back, keeping eyeballing the work, and finally, it comes to us and then we can make it more "us". Now, that statement didn't make much sense, but you know what I mean. I never call a painting or piece of work done until it has sat within my view and then I can "see" what it is that just doesn't quite click. Good job Lori!

The other one was fine but it didn't totally "grab" me. THIS one does though. Very, very nice! I was nodding along, understanding exactly what you meant. I'm glad you figured it out in time for your deadline!
you are so right to listen to that little inner voice speaking to you. you'll never be happy with your work if you ignore it. although i like the first version, i love this one!! so much more detail and texture and oomph!
