i always look forward to decorating our Christmas tree because it's just like taking a walk down memory lane. every year when i pop the lid on our box of ornaments, it's almost like opening a time capsule!
some ornies are handmade by ourselves (this blue polka-dot ball is something that i created about 15 years ago during my "ceramics phase").....
......while some have been created by others
(this cute angel was made using a cotton boll, picked directly from the cotton plant in alabama).....
some have a way of bringing a tear to my eye
(made by our son in day care...was that really almost 20 years ago?).....
some have come from far-away places
(my mom and dad brought this handmade treasure back from germany 25 years ago)......
and then there are those that simply bring a smile to my face every time i look at them
(this was a gift from our dog's groomer.....a clear glass ornie filled with our sweet molly's trimmed hair! it's one of my all-time favorites!!).
enjoy the stories that your ornaments are telling, enjoy gazing at your decorated tree, enjoy the memories, and most of all, enjoy the Christmas inspiration!!

And then there are the ornaments passed down from my grandmother and from hubby's grandmother, and ... I know what you mean :D I'll put the tree up next week, we usually bring it in on Christmas eve.

You hit the nail on the head. The ornaments each tell their own story, and I love taking that trip down memory lane every year. Z and I really are just starting our ever growing collection together. A couple of years ago when we first moved into our house, we had a huuuge holiday dinner and asked everyone to bring an ornament for the tree. Beautiful memories. Happy trimming :)

Thank you. We just decorated the tree yesterday and yes, some of the ornaments do have history or a story behind them.
I have another smaller twig tree in the kitchen but, although those ornaments have no special meaning - I love the tree.

your ornaments are just so cute. the stories behind them are beautiful. I happen to have gotten most of my ornaments from my gradmother. I just love it when items like these get past on from generation to generation.
we have a tree like that! and you're right - it is like a time capsule. almost every ornament on our tree has some sort of story behind it.... those made by my kids are special treasures. a few years ago i inherited my grandmother's antique 'shiny bright' ornaments and i love them!

How fun... I love the blue one with polka dots..I still don't have my tree up yet.. I'm having a Christmas party here on Thursday so I MUST get it done this week.

Gee... this post really hit home. Right now the tree is standing in the living room with lights, but without ornaments. Nearby sit 5 overstuffed boxes of tightly packed sentimental ornaments. It is overwhelming to think of the work ahead of me (our tree will be 'raining ornaments' when I finish!). But... then after reading your post I begin to tear up thinking of all the memories in those boxes and the wonderful time I'll have tomorrow hanging them all on the tree. Thanks for the little boost!
