black, white and grey all over

this is a little doodle that i came up with, trying to use the shading exercises that i'm learning in pam carriker's shades of grey online class. i must admit that using a black, white, and grey palette is quite different than what i'm used to.....trying to create the same doodle whimsy without using my rainbow stash of watercolor pencils has been a bit of a challenge! and this is probably the only time you'll ever see me color a heart grey!

journal page finished using pitt brush-tipped pens, micron pens, pencil

You've inspired me. I bought a set of Micron Pens! Your grays are pretty, lori. You can make even B & W colorful.

It's an interesting doodle -- I think there's a great contrast between the shades of grey, black and white and the happines, which is usually something..well..colourful :)

wonderful! I love working in graphite or pen and ink, reducing an image to black & white reminds me of old photos. I've even used all sepia tones for the same effect.

Did working with only gray feel weird? What did you like or dislike about this? Trying new things always gets me closer to knowing what works or doesn't work for me. Hope you had fun experimenting.

I think this is sweet, Lori. I especially like the heart shaped smoke coming out of the chimney! Have a great day and hugs from me,

All I can say is... ONLY you can make grey look that good. I think it still has your same fun flair...

I think it is lovely.
Quite different from your usual style, but equally lovely.

I'd also like to see what you could do using shades of grey watercolor pencils and your usual water brush.

If you ask me, you nailed it.

Looks like you can still create a wonderful drawing even without color!

Great job, Lori! I've always liked black and white, 'cuz we get to use our imaginations and fill in the colors ourselves.

Keep it up, Girlfriend!

Kate

It is hard to stick to something new but I think your shades of grey turned out really nice. I have often wanted to do a small wall quilt in shades of grey. Glad to hear the repairs are happening. Hopefully they won't last long...
