more on chalk

several days ago i was playing in my journal with chalk pastels (see here). this is a layout using the same stencils, same chalks, along with some micron pen detailing......but this time on a page from a discarded library book.. it's always amazing to me how the same subject matter can look so completely different when it's on a new background! of course, i'm so hooked on my cherished little heart-in-hand image, i think i'd love it on just about any background.....

I love it! (Also love discarded library books as a canvas.) ^_^
The hand looks great on the little house, and your stencil play, too.
Great creative exercise, using the same motif in different ways. Bravo!

I love how you create so freely...so passionately. I'm guessing that your mind is always "on" and your imaginative creations reflect this wonderful enthusiasm.

Love this one AND the one before it. Am behind in my blog reading. Your work is always so clever and fun. Just keep it up, you are amazing.

I really like your 3-D look. Question: Does the chalk pastel smear or do you have to spray it?

hi dolores! i don't normally spray the chalk in my journal, unless there's a lot of it on the page. it doesn't seem to smear too badly if i rub it into the page well. for other applications i go ahead and use a spray fixative (very stinky) just to keep it from getting all over the place. :)))

Very fun and yes it is a completely different look. That is the best part of art...how we make it our own! Happy creating...

Like Paper Pumpkin, whenever I see your heart in hand motif, I think of your brother's gift.

I don't think I'll ever get over how incredibly touching it was for him to create something *so* very special for you. Yikes! Im feeling teary now just thinking of it. :-)

Hugs for both of you!

Have a fun weekend :-)

(You are inspiring me to try to keep an art journal - something I've never done before!)

Greetings Lori,

I have always been drawn by the power of your hand and heart. They are not only graphically very strong but to me also reflect what I feel, considering my health history.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
Egmont

Hi Lori - me again (2 x's in one day) can you tell me what brand of chalk you use - I have tied so many and can't seem to find the right ones for me - find them not soft enough. Wha do you use?
