you may have already heard the buzz in blogland....julie pritchard's new classes have begun! i've seen so many wonderful things from all of you who took her "layer love" class, that when she offered this class about making books, i couldn't resist signing up! it's been a while since i've created any new books, so i couldn't wait to watch julie's videos, get my supplies out, start sewing up the book block....
and then make the covers out of this paste paper that i painted a few months ago....it seems to feed this creative appetite that i'm having for the color orange these days!
julie recommends using fabriano paper for the text pages (which is fabulous paper!), but i decided to use this watercolor paper in my stash. the word "play" was written with my pentel colorbrush....it's definitely one of my favorite toys!
i was pretty nervous punching the holes into the cover so i could do a little hand-stitching....once you punch that first hole, though, you get pretty fearless and just go for it!
thanks, julie.... i'm already looking forward to next week's class!
I just adore your lettering and your simple style of whimsy... Makes me grin every single time without fail..
the color choice sure brightens up my day; the stiching on the cover gives it some personality as well
Sounds like a fun class, and your book is so bright and whimsical! If you have a moment, drop me a line about how you connected with her. I click on her link and it's "invitation only". Wondering how to find out more about her classes...
It's beautiful, Lori! Love the orange and lime green together.
Great book! Love the colors and print.
Hugs from Texas.

Thanks for the info Lori! I'm checking with Julie if she'll be offering the class again sometime--sounds too good to miss!

Love love love it! I am kinda in an orange mood too--I wonder why.--could it be a September thing???
the colors are wonderful and those stitches add so much playfulness! i've been meaning to try doing paste paper but the list is sooo long of things to do and try and create. i love to watch the fruits of your play!

I was just trying to send you an email, but I realized that I don't have an email address for you.
Could you email me at email@example.com I have a question for you. :)
A very happy and cheerful book Lori! I like Pentel Colorbrushes too. The bristles come to such a fine point. :-)
Hi Lori! What a BEAUTIFUL book!!! I love the painted paper that you used for the covers, and your lettering which is ALWAYS so lovely! I would have been nervous to poke holes in that beauty too,(you're very brave!) but it came out sooo perfectly, and the stitching is just so pretty! I love it all!!!! Hugs, Paulette :o)
Such a cheerful book with a cheery thought! I play everyday and I love it. Who needs a stuffy old office job anyway??

Hi there! I just posted my handmade books over at Super Nova forum. Took me forever to figure out (ha).
U never cease to amaze me....This orange journal delightful. Hey, great minds strike again! I too used a little reinforcement for the spine & I'm pleased at how it gives a more polished/squared off/refined look.
p.s. but Lori, how/what shall we fill our new journals with? (you go first :)
